Last week I worked with a client who was having a tough time with his ZOOM meetings. His WiFi was so bad that he couldn't stay connected to ZOOM. So, he called me and I accessed the situation. I discovered that the best WiFi signal he had in his home was about 20Mbps and where he was using his computer for ZOOM meetings he had speeds of 2.5Mbps! I called Comcast and discovered that he should be seeing speeds of up to 100Mbps. We determined that he needed a new, more up-to-date modem and Xfi Pods to create a mesh network at his house. Now he's enjoying 120 to 150Mbps speeds and he doesn't drop his ZOOM meetings any longer!

Recently, I’ve done a fair amount of work on the WiFi signal in different people’s homes. Here’s a good WiFi speed test website.

Today I worked with a wonderful client who was struggling with, what she thought, was a terribly slow computer. So, I checked to be sure her computer was working as it should and found out that, yes, everything was as it should have been.

During my initial look at her computer though, I discovered that it was indeed taking a long time for her computer to load webpages. So, I ran a speed test on the WiFi signal in her house and discovered that her WiFi speed was 1.5 mbps. In most homes the average WiFi speed should be 54 mbps. Hers was 1.5 mbps! In other words, the "pipe" that supplied her computer with its internet signal was as big around as a pencil instead of being as big around as a car tire!

So, we spoke with Verizon, her internet provider, and discovered that the subscription she pays for only givers her a maximum of 1.5 mbps! WOW! Before I left today, we talked to Comcast and arranged to bundle her internet service, home phone and TV service and she's only going to pay about $3 more per month for everything!
