Alright I know you all know that I LOVE designing websites on WordPress, but what do I use to build those amazing websites??

Elementor!

Elementor is a page builder plugin that allows you to build individual pages on your website, and it's pretty much drag and drop 😉

It is a popular page builder for WordPress, and for good reason!

Here are my favorite reasons why I design all of my client’s websites using Elementor:

✨It is user friendly, even if you’re a novice and aren't very tech savvy.
✨It is not clunky unlike other page builders such as Divi or Beaver Builder (of course not clunky with the RIGHT theme 👀)
✨It has a plethora of design features and you can do a ton of customization

Welcome to website platform Wednesday, where we’ll be comparing Wordpress and Wix side by by 🤓

I get this question all the time: Which website platform should I build my website on?? 🤷‍♀️

And to answer this question-It depends! 🧐

Every small business is different and the website platform you choose will depend on your business needs, your overall comfort level with tech, and your budget!

We’ll focus on Wordpress and Wix, since those are the platforms I specialize in 😏

Okay let’s dive in!

Here’s my overall take on each platform:

🔥Wix is very beginner friendly, as it has just enough themes and functionality for those who are in the early stages of their small business. Best platform to dip your toes into if you’re just starting out and don’t want to overwhelm yourself with all the advanced techy stuff!
🔥Wordpress is a great fit if you’ve been in business for a while and are scaling. You’ll feel much more confident in creating a bigger and better website that will grow as your business grows. Feeling tech savvy AF?? Then WordPress will be the way to go!
🔥WordPress is known to be pretty complex, however it is a powerful platform, with so many possibilities to design your dream site with advanced customization. Wix is perfect for those who are content with simplicity (less is more if you're into that!)

Whether you start with Wix or Wordpress, the biggest benefit of each platform is that you’re online 💪

Once you have that online presence going for you, you can only go up from there🚀

Not all hosting plans are the same 👀

There are so many hosting providers out there, and you should do your research on all potential options, to pick the one that works best for your WordPress website 💪

What I love about WordPress is that it is self hosted, which means that you have the freedom to move your website from one hosting provider to another 🤯

That means you don’t have to settle for your current hosting plan 👏

You don’t need to be married to your current hosting if it's not working for you!

If your current hosting provider just plains sucks and you’re looking to make the switch, guess what? You CAN migrate your WordPress website to another one that is better suited for you 😏

So what are the signs that it's time to switch to a new hosting provider?

❌When customer support has you pulling your hairs out and isn’t supportive at all
❌Your website is loading way too slowly
❌You’re overpaying for a less than stellar hosting plan
❌Your website keeps going offline

The past few years of growing my business has taught me many things

One of the most important things in business I’ve learned is to create boundaries 💪

I’m a huge people pleaser and I have a hard time saying no to clients 😫

This became a huge problem as not having strict boundaries has led to

👉Working outside of office hours
👉Clients sending rush projects with little to no notice
👉Clients expecting you to be on call all the damn time
👉Burn out

I’ve recently implemented stricter boundaries, which has helped me with protecting my energy and not resenting starting my business 🙌

And what that looks like is

👍Not responding to emails outside of office hours
👍Turning off my notifications for emails/slack/voxer
👍Setting up my onboarding welcome packet to highlight expectations and my working hours
👍Setting up my out of office emails when I go on vacation
👍Turning off my laptop at the end of my work day (and having a cocktail after doing that) 🍹

Preserve your energy and protect your mental well being and start saying no to clients/projects that don’t work for you 👏
