We thank Burak!

How We Met as Roommates

I met Burak when we were both students at UIC. I was in my senior year for marketing looking for a roommate for our apartment and Burak was in his second year for his MFA in graphic design looking for a place to live after getting out of a bad dorm experience. We got off to a great start as friends because all our roommates enjoyed hanging out, we had my dog Stella who was only a few months old, we both sang and played guitar, listened to the same kind of music. Being broke college students we cooked pasta, ordered a lot of Domino’s, usually staying in most nights. I was also shocked at the sheer passion Burak had for the TV show “Lost”.

How We Became Colleagues

A few months into 2010 I graduated and started taking real estate classes to get my brokers license so I could start College Rising. Burak, working on his MFA, thought it would be a good idea for a class project to create the logo and brochures, and I had absolutely no problem getting free design work. In March of 2010, College Rising incorporated with the logo that still stands above you today.
