We always re-cap aging and cheap electrolytic capacitors (generally needed for reliability). We suggest upgrades to op-amps or transistors when recommended unless vintage tonality relies on original op-amps, period-correct transitors, vacuum tubes, resistors, chokes, coils or transformers. We always let the customer decide on which route to take so as to not change the original vintage or boutique sound of the instrument or device. Everything in the audio, video or critical path is kept original unless the customer decides on an upgrade or modernization. We may have many suggestions for improved audio fidelity if desired, or the customer may choose to keep as close to the original show-room floor or quality-aged vintage warm colored sound as possible. Before and after from a corroded and contaminated pcb cleanup story recent customer...

This Vectrex unit was plagued with bad popular "console" cap kit that we had to remove. These kits are poor quality old surplus parts from as old as 2007.

Many customers are sending us their Vectrex console to remove these kits and this becoming a common occurrence:

These guys did a great job. I had a Sony speaker that cost about 700 dollars that was broken from the top and wires all came apart. These guys fixed and it was good as new. Would highly recommend.

Completely refurbished my Korg Mono/Poly and added Midi I/O. Most of the keys and controls weren't working and it's completely functional like new with added MIDI now. Highly recommended. Quick turnaround.

Be aware that at this age, a lot of Vectrex consoles are now acid damaged and can become so severe that the PCB starts smoking. In a worst case scenario (that happened to a customer recently), smoldering fire can cause the area to turn into conductive carbon. The scorched conducive material has to be removed like a cavity in a tooth. Here is the picture of a leaky cap, as well as the before and after of the PCB repair:

We repair Vectrex's pretty heavily. We have test cartridges for sale on the website as well as offering repairs, refurbishments, often refurbished console units with controllers and games and we also cover a comprehensive list of custom mods.

Customers may also propose new mods to us. We can pretty much handle anything Vectrex related! We even offer a complete rebuild of the notoriously malfunctioning front switch!
