MY STORY...
As a life-long academic, I’ve sat and worked for countless hours on my laptop in busy public spaces like coffee shops, cafeterias and libraries.
I would spend hours and even the entire day at these places but often I would need to step away from my brand new Macbook Pro to use the rest room, or make a call outside or even go to the car to get something...
the problem I faced was this...
and I pose this to you...
what would you do when you have to step away from your laptop?...
A) Pack up your lap top and take it with you- losing your spot?...
now you may have to leave that window seat coffee shop table or comfortable desk at the library...such a nuisance.
B) Using an old outdated cable locking mechanism on your laptop?...
have you ever used it your yourself?...
Have you seen anyone use it in public?...
I haven't, but why? I was told time and again, that it's just cumbersome to use (have to take out and attach/detach every single time) and it simply just looks ridiculous!
C) And worst... I've been guilty of this one...
I looked at a customer sitting in front of me and said...
"Hey man, can you watch my laptop?"...
dumbest decision ever! However we've all done it; entrusting a complete stranger to safeguard our valuable laptop ($$$) and also moreover, our personal files/photos/sensitive documents that can be all gone in an instant!
This is the issue that I ran into, time and again when using my laptop in public spaces. So I did some research...
In 2018, the Gartner Consulting Group conducted a survey and found that:
a laptop is stolen every 53 seconds...
laptop loss and theft cost the nation nearly 1.8 billion...
I realized that my personal pain point was not so personal at all!
