Hey everyone, Justin here from Computer Prodigies!

I wanted to share a quick update and say a huge thank you to everyone who participated in our recent community giveaway. Seeing the response from our local neighborhood groups and Facebook community was awesome.

Two of our winners have already swung by the shop to pick up their devices! A big shoutout and congratulations to Luis and Debbie—we hope these computers serve you and your families well!

Hey everyone!

We're doing another giveaway over at Computer Prodigies . We have a few extra devices at the shop that we want to pass on to folks in the community who could truly use them.

To be upfront, this is nothing crazy—we have 3 Chromebooks and 1 All-in-One desktop (loaded with Linux Mint and built-in Wi-Fi). They aren't high-end machines, but they are perfect for schoolwork, putting together a resume, finding a job, or just streaming movies at home.

This is a completely free raffle. There is absolutely no BS and no catch. We just like to give back to the community when we can. We'll be picking 4 different people to each get a device.

My only request: Please do not comment to win if you just plan on reselling them. We really want these to go to individuals or families who genuinely need a device right now.

Just a heads up, I’m only posting this in three places: the Talk of the Town Oak Lawn group, the Moms of Burbank group, and our Computer Prodigies page.

For us, it’s literally the job. But we know every IT-adjacent family member out there is silently nodding right now.

Most people don’t know this.

The average laptop pulls in air through tiny vents to cool the processor. Over three years, the inside of that laptop ends up coated in a fine layer of dust — sometimes a quarter inch thick on the fan blades.

That dust is the #1 reason laptops get hot, get loud, and eventually shut down.

A good professional cleaning can drop temperatures by 20 degrees and add years to the life of the machine.

Every few years, this prank trends online.

“To make Windows faster, delete the System32 folder.”

It’s a joke. Don’t do it.

System32 is the heart of Windows. Delete it and your computer will not boot. You’ll need a fresh install — and depending on what you had stored, possibly data recovery.

If someone tells you to delete it for any reason, they’re either pranking you or trying to brick your machine.

We see it happen more often than you’d think.

This is one of the most common things we hear at the counter.

“My MacBook can’t get a virus. It’s a Mac.”

Macs absolutely get malware. Browser hijackers, adware, fake “you have 17 viruses” pop-ups, and yes — actual malicious software.

The myth comes from years ago when Macs had a smaller share of the market and attackers didn’t bother. That’s not true anymore.

If your Mac is suddenly running hot, the fan won’t quit, or you’re seeing strange pop-ups — get it checked.
