RECORD STORE DAY NOTE TO STORES -- RSD 2020
We do not have to tell you what the RSD organizers have been discussing, daily, for the last few weeks. We dont have to tell you that no one knows what things will look like in five weeks, or even five weeks after that. We dont have to tell you that things are fluid, changing first weekly, then daily, now seemingly hourly. But decisions need to be made for that future time period now, when everything is unclear and uncertain.
Record Store Day is a worldwide event involving thousands of people and small businessesstores foremost for us among them, but also labels, distribution of all sizes, one-stop partners and others. There are a lot of moving parts, and most of them are in motion. In our discussions about what to do, weve taken all of them into consideration, and into conversation, as we go over various options: Stay the course. Move the date. Change the structure of the event.
There is no perfect solution. There is no right answer.
But weve decided that the best of all possible moves is to change the date of Record Store Day this year to Saturday, June 20.
Some of you will disagree with the date, some will disagree with the decision, and everyones points are completely valid. We think this gives stores around the world the best chance to have a profitable, successful Record Store Day, while taking into consideration the recommendations of doctors, scientists, the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control, and the need to be good citizens of both local and worldwide communities.
We know you will have questions, and were working with all the RSD partners, including one-stops and distribution companies, to get answers and give them to you proactively. There may never be a more important time to read and keep the RSD emails that come to you, and will now possibly be coming more than once a week if we have information that we feel is important to give you in the moment. You will be hearing from your reps at distribution and one-stops, and each of them will have their own procedures in place. Please give them a little time and patience as this disrupts their schedules and workload greatly as well.
We also know you have plans in motion, and that some of them may not be able to be replicated on June 20. We are very sorry for any chaos or frustration this decision brings. (But heyanything with the April date on it just became that much more special!)
For now, we ask you to help us please get the word out to your customers and make sure they know that this is being done because Record Store Day is celebrated everywhere, and we want to do this when everyone is safe and can celebrate together. The hashtag remains and the logo with the new date is AVAILABLE for your social media use.
THIS PART WERE SERIOUS ABOUT: Please do not copy, forward or otherwise share the information contained in this email with anyone outside its intended recipients.
