When B2B merchants migrate from Magento to Shopify, the catalog usually gets plenty of attention.
Shipping? That is where things can get expensive fast.
For manufacturers and distributors shipping heavy, bulky, or awkward products, Shopify needs precise package dimensions, weights, and shipping profiles to quote rates correctly. Without that setup, a 40-pound order can accidentally show a cheap flat-rate option that does not come close to covering the real cost.
That is not a Shopify problem. It is a setup problem. Magento and Adobe Commerce often allow merchants to lean on broader shipping rules. Shopify is more literal. It calculates based on the exact data you give it.
The takeaway: shipping needs to be part of the migration plan, not a post-launch cleanup item.
