Earlier this month we posted about a project we have been working on to identify crime hot spots in Oakland. Given your feedback we have modified our program to smooth out the edges of the hot spots, In addition, we have added icons to identify the hot spot crime and provided information such as when the hot spot started, the last reported incident, the days between reported incidents and a link for tips to prevent the crime. Today we deployed this information in our mobiNotice Web App. In addition, we will be developing apps for smartphones and placing the hot spot information on the publicly available part of our website.

We are working on a project to highlight auto-related and robbery-related crime hotspots in Oakland. The photo below shows the outline of an Auto-Related hotspot. I would like your feedback on whether or not you are interested in knowing where these hotspots are and if you would use a mobile app that informs you when you have entered one of the hotspots. Our intention is that with information you can take preventative measures to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime. For example, being sure to lock car doors, close windows and stow personal property when you are parked in an area with a high level of auto burglary or theft.
