This is us... 20 years ago. This was the last time we traveled together on a kid-free vacation, drinking rum punch in the afternoon on the island Barbados. How is it that we let that 20 years slide by since then? I honestly don't know. Don't get me wrong, I love my kids, but damn, this is long overdue. Here's to making up for lost time, embracing adventure, and creating memories that will last the rest of our lifetime. Off to Spain we go!

Nothing clever about design or branding, just a post about me and my new Bronco Badlands.

I've always loved the late 60's and early 70's Broncos. As a kid, I have fond recollections of bouncing around with my brother in the back of my dad's Ford Bronco. Down dirt back roads, winding through the Adirondack mountains to our camp (where these pictures were taken), and through farm fields. Memories. Emotions. Feelings. Maybe this is about branding after all.

When Ford announced they were bringing back the Bronco, I made a promise to myself that I would own one. I had no idea that there would be hard top issues, chip shortages, and that there's not a single person working at Ford that knows how to send emails (anyone waiting for an update on their build date will understand). My wait wasn't nearly as long as some, but she's finally here. Now to plan some road trips, add some accessories, and find some mud holes!

I'm also going to start saving for a 1974 Bronco Ranger.

Here is a logo and web project I created for Alice Givens, an Entrepreneurial and Leadership Coach, a real estate tycoon, business owner, and power broker. Oh, she also owns the largest floral distribution center in the southeastern US! She's legit.

The fear of failure can leave you feeling paralyzed, stuck and inevitably kill your creativity.

I struggle with this every day.

I might look bad.
I might get laughed at.
God forbid, I could be wrong.
I've got 99 ideas... and not a single good one.

What if people think I am a fraud?
Maybe I'm really NOT a good designer.

Then you think about all the times you failed in the past, and hesitate to start that new business venture. You keep all those creative ideas locked deep inside your head. You end up doing nothing.

I'll be revisiting this post frequently to remind myself.... who cares what people think! Be more afraid of not trying than of failure.

I've shared this image of the design process (originally created by Damien Newman - read the story over at thedesignsquiggle.com) with a few clients over the years and today felt like one of those days where I was all over the place. The design process is never really pretty, but I still love the process of getting to that final design... no matter how many "newfinal_final_008.psd" files get created.

I know, I know! This is like the 3rd puppy pic of Jyn in a row. Somebody stop me.

The thing is, I was thinking today about how this bounding bundle of energy has affected my work life since she showed up a little over a month ago.

1. Early Mornings.

I'm up and going a bit earlier in the morning, which I'm finding easier and easier after time. I'm not going to miss standing in the backyard at 4:30 am, clenching a leash in -30 degree temps and lake effect snow, but mornings are growing on me.

2. Early Nights

I'm asleep a bit earlier at night. I've always been a night owl but I'm also no spring chicken. The days of pulling productive all-nighters in the glow of an LED screen have come and gone. Besides, Jyn loves to curl up on the couch at night.

3. Taking Breaks

I'm taking breaks during the day, going for walks, and enjoying some fresh air. It's easy to ignore all these things when you bury yourself in your work and tune everything out, but Jyn has an ear-piercing bark and refuses to be ignored. She doesn't know it, but she's doing me a favor.

Gone for a walk.

My wife and kids surprised me with a birthday present last week… I don’t even know what to say. Meet Jyn (some unnamed people are still arguing about her name) but I just want to wander around with her and get lost. I’m so in love.
