Cybercriminals are using convincing fake Adobe and Zoom updates to trick users into installing malware.

These attacks can look legitimate, use familiar company logos, and even install legitimate remote-access software that has been configured to give the attackers control of the computer.

The takeaway is simple: **don’t install software updates from unexpected pop-ups, emails, or unfamiliar websites.**

When in doubt, close the message and contact your IT provider before clicking anything.

Microsoft Teams is changing again, but this time Microsoft hit the brakes.

A planned update was supposed to automatically move muted conversations and meeting chats into separate sections, helping clean up the Teams sidebar and reduce clutter. After several delays, Microsoft has temporarily pulled back the rollout.

The feature is delayed, not necessarily dead.

In the meantime, businesses can still make Teams easier to manage by pinning important chats, muting low-priority conversations, keeping project discussions in dedicated channels, and making sure important files and decisions aren't buried in chat history.

Morning coffee on the deck and figuring out what the day looks like.

One of the things I like about running my own business is that no two days are ever quite the same. Some days are spent behind a desk. Other days I'm out working with a local business, troubleshooting a strange problem, setting up a new computer, dealing with security issues, or driving somewhere with a pretty good view along the way.

Today looks like it's going to be a little bit of everything.

Passwords are slowly becoming a thing of the past.

Microsoft is moving further toward passkeys, which let you sign in using your device, fingerprint, face, or another secure method instead of typing a password.

The big advantage isn't just convenience. Passkeys are much harder to steal through phishing because they are tied to the legitimate website. A fake Microsoft login page can't simply trick you into handing over a password.

For businesses, this is another sign that authentication is changing quickly. Microsoft says users relying on its managed SMS or voice authentication will start being prompted to register passkeys beginning September 1, 2026, with those built-in SMS and voice methods scheduled to be retired February 1, 2027.

If your business is still relying heavily on passwords and text-message codes, now is a good time to start thinking about what comes next.
