Quick Answers With Don - What's The Difference Between Solid Top & Laminate Top Acoustic Guitars?

I was showing a customer some acoustic guitars today and he asked about the difference between solid and laminate top guitars. Some players swear that solid woods are the only way to go but I go over in the video why choosing a laminate top might be a better choice in some situations.

Quick Answers With Don - How Often Should I Change My Guitar Strings?

A local customer brought his guitar in today to have the shop put new strings on and he asked how often he should change his strings.
I've seen the extremes from touring pros that get a new set every show to strings that have been on so long that they're starting to rust and you just hope the player is current on their tetanus shots.

Quick Answers With Don - Should I Buy An Acoustic Guitar With A Built In Pickup?

Had someone asking if it was worth getting an acoustic guitar with the pickup already built in or just get a plain acoustic and worry about a pickup later.
Its cost between the two is pretty small anymore so my recommendation is if you think you might ever want to plug it in in the future, go ahead and just get one right away with a pickup.

Today's Question - Should I Upgrade My Pickups In My Electric Guitar?

This is a tough question to answer without knowing more about their situation. If you like working on your own guitar and are competent with a soldering iron then this could be a fun DIY project. If you want to have this work done by a professional it can get a little pricey. It also gets complicated if you want to go from passive to active pickups because that's when a simple wiring job turns into much more. Do your research and look into the process before making a commitment. It might be better to just get another guitar with the pickups you want already in place from the factory.
