Don't fall for the "FLASHING RED SCREEN" trap! 🛑

Have you ever been browsing the web and suddenly a scary window pops up saying your computer is infected with 19 viruses, accompanied by a loud beeping noise?

HERE IS THE TRUTH: That isn’t a real virus scan. It’s a website designed to look like a system error to scare you into calling a fake "support" number. Real security software will never ask you to call a random 1-800 number or pay for "cleaning" with gift cards. If you see one of these, the best thing to do is close your browser entirely.

Today’s Tech Tip: If your screen "freezes" on one of those scary pop-ups and won't let you click the 'X', try pressing Alt + F4 on your keyboard. This is a shortcut that tells your computer to force-close the active window immediately!

Question:
Have you ever encountered one of these fake "Technical Support" pop-ups while browsing? How did you handle it?

📌 Windows 10 & TurboTax – What You Need to Know (2026 Update)

💻 Using Windows 10 and TurboTax this tax season? Here’s an important update.
If you’re trying to install TurboTax Desktop 2025 or newer, it will NOT run on Windows 10. Intuit has officially dropped Windows 10 support for newer desktop versions and now requires Windows 11 (64-bit).

✅ What still works
TurboTax 2024 and earlier (Desktop) will still run on Windows 10
TurboTax Online (browser version) works on Windows 10 with no installation

❌ What won’t work
TurboTax Desktop 2025+ will not install on Windows 10, even if your system is updated
🔧 Your options ✔ Upgrade your PC to Windows 11 (if compatible)
✔ Use TurboTax Online instead of the desktop version
✔ Switch to another tax program that still supports Windows 10
✔ Move TurboTax Desktop to a Windows 11 computer

📍 Need help? We can:
Check if your PC can upgrade to Windows 11
Perform safe upgrades & data transfers
Help troubleshoot TurboTax installation issues
Recommend the best option for your setup

📞 Stop by or contact ItWorks Computer Sales and Service — we’ll make sure your system is ready before tax deadlines hit.

Ever had a "heart-stopping" moment when you accidentally deleted a whole paragraph or closed the wrong tab? 😱

Before you panic, remember the "Time Machine" keys! These two shortcuts are the ultimate life-savers for any computer user:

💡 Quick Tech Tip:
1. Ctrl + Z (Undo): This is the universal "Oops" button. It works in Word, Email, Photo editing, and even when moving files. It’s like it never happened!

2. Ctrl + Shift + T: Did you just accidentally close a browser tab you were actually using? Press these three together, and it will pop right back up exactly where you left off.

Question for you: What is the one thing you've "lost" on your computer that you wish you could have gotten back instantly? 👇

“Today we take time to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and reflect on the values he dedicated his life to—unity, equality, service, and kindness.

His leadership reminds us that meaningful change is not created by words alone, but by consistent actions rooted in respect, courage, and a willingness to stand up for what is right, even when it is difficult.

MLK Day is an opportunity to slow down, reflect on how far our communities have come, and recognize the work that still lies ahead. It is a moment to appreciate the people around us, the strength of coming together, and the impact of choosing understanding over division. Through service, compassion, and everyday acts that uplift one another, we each play a part in building stronger, more connected communities.

By carrying these values forward in our daily lives, we help ensure that Dr. King’s dream continues to live on—not just in memory, but through our actions.”

The Hidden Life of Your Charging Cables 🔌
Ever notice how some cables seem to charge your devices faster than others, or suddenly stop working unless you hold them at a "perfect" angle?

It’s usually not the cable being moody—it’s actually tiny copper wires inside breaking from being bent too sharply or "tightly" coiled.

Quick Tip: When storing your cables, try the "over-under" loop or a loose circle rather than wrapping them tightly around your hand or the power brick. A loose loop prevents the internal wires from stretching and snapping, making your expensive chargers last years longer!

🤔How many "dead" cables do you currently have sitting in a junk drawer? We're all guilty of keeping at least one! 👇

⌨️ Fact Check: Is your keyboard a germ magnet?

Believe it or not, a study by the University of Arizona found that the average computer keyboard can have 400 times more bacteria than a toilet seat! 😱
Since we spend so much time typing away, it’s easy to forget that our keyboards need a little TLC too.

🧼 2-Minute Maintenance Tip:

You don’t need a fancy kit to keep things clean. Once a week:
1.) Unplug your keyboard (or turn off your laptop).

2.) Flip it over and give it a gentle tap to let the crumbs fall out.

3.)Wipe it down with a slightly damp microfiber cloth.

It’ll look better, feel better, and keep the "ghastlies" away!

Comment Challenge:
Try to type your favorite snack using only your left hand. I'll start: Stewardesses (okay, that's not a snack, but it's the longest word you can type with your left hand!).

🦋 Did you know the first "Computer Bug" was a real bug?

In 1947, a pioneer named Grace Hopper was working on the Harvard Mark II computer when it started acting up. When they opened it up to see what was wrong, they found an actual moth trapped in a relay!

She taped the moth into her logbook and labeled it the "First actual case of bug being found." From that day on, whenever a computer had a glitch, they said they were "debugging" it.

Trivia for the day: Next time your computer acts a little "buggy," just remember—at least you probably don't have a moth in your motherboard!

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever found in or around your computer desk?

The Shortcut You Didn’t Know You Needed! 📋

We’ve all been there: you copy something, then accidentally copy something else before you had a chance to paste the first thing. Usually, that first piece of information is gone forever—but not with this trick!

Today's Tech Tip:
Press the Windows Key + V.

Instead of just pasting the last thing you copied, this opens up your Clipboard History. It shows you a list of everything you’ve copied recently (text, links, even images), so you can pick and choose what to paste.

Note: The first time you do it, you’ll just need to click "Turn on."

How many windows do you usually have open at once? Are you a "five tabs" person or a "fifty tabs" person?

🔐 The "Passphrase" Hack: Stronger & Easier to Remember!

Still using "P@ssword123" or your dog's name? Most people think a "strong" password has to be a confusing mess like xK9!pQ2$. But those are impossible to remember and actually easier for computers to "guess."

The Pro Secret: Use a Passphrase.
Pick 3 or 4 random, unrelated words and string them together.
Bad: BlueD0g! (Short, easy to hack)
Pro: Purple-Toaster-Running-Granite

Why it works:
Length is King: It’s much harder for a hacker's computer to crack a long string of words.

Memory Hack: You can picture a purple toaster running on a granite floor. It sticks in your brain way better than a string of random characters!

Let’s Have Some Fun 🎭
If you had to make a passphrase based on the last thing you ate and the color of
your shirt, what would your new "Secret Code" be?

(Example: BlueBerryPancake) — Don’t actually use this as your password, just for fun in the comments! 👇

"Is it just us, or do cords multiply like rabbits the second you look away? 🔌🐰

We’ve all been there—reaching for one charger and accidentally pulling the entire lamp off the nightstand.

If your 'tech drawer' is starting to look like a bowl of spaghetti, here is a quick trick to reclaim your sanity!"

Quick Tip: Use labeled bread tags or small pieces of masking tape to mark both ends of your cables. You’ll never unplug the Wi-Fi router when you meant to unplug the toaster again!

Question: What is the oldest piece of tech you still have a charger for? (Bonus points if it’s a flip phone!)

Happy 2026! 🎆 We hope everyone had a safe and wonderful night ringing in the new year.
Whether you stayed up for the countdown or were asleep by 9:00 PM, here’s to a fresh start and a great year ahead for our small town.

Pro Tip:
If you’re setting "get organized" resolutions today, start small! Pick just one junk drawer or one corner of a room to tackle this week. It’s way less overwhelming than trying to redo the whole house at once.

Question for you:
What is one thing you’re actually looking forward to in 2026?
