Sometimes, we as tattoo artists have to do things, that well, are out of regular scope
And instead of just making things up, its best to actually try to learn, and educate yourself on the things, especially cultures such as Oriental tattoo designs or Polynesian tribal. As a consumer, I would suggest finding actual artists who are traditional of and do these culture designs. But if you can't in your area or get to one, try to make sure your artist atleast studies these things before hand. Artists, you most definitely should do this even if the client doesn't ask.
