If you suspect an email to be fraudulent, look at the email address of the sender. The email may claim to come from Chase Bank, for example, but the sender might be [email protected]. They can't get the email through to you if they use a "real" Chase Bank email address. It will get flagged and deleted before it gets to you.

LOTS of hacking going on these days...quite a bit comes via emails pretending to be something else. Always look at the email sender's address...it can be a great clue you're being scammed. A very common one is supposedly from godaddy, for example, but the sender's email address will be [email protected] or similar.
