Friendly PSA Any time we have a customer lose data that was stored on a computer, I try to take time to remind customers how IMPORTANT it is to have backups of valuable data! It's pretty simple to have an EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE and make regular backups to that drive. And so disappointing to customers to lose valuable photos, etc when it could have been backed up. Check backups occasionally to make sure they are backing up what you want to keep!! If you don't know how to do any of this, ASK SOMEONE!! (There are services that can try to recover your data if a drive fails, but they are very expensive!! Here are two photos (top and bottom) of a typical CPU cooler in a desktop computer. Without a cooler, your main processor in a desktop computer would overheat and suffer damage before your system completes the startup.

NOTE that this is a CLEAN CPU cooler! Notice the fins are pretty close together. We often see coolers that are clogged with dust underneath the fan. If it is clogged, air won't pass by the fins, and the cooler won't keep the CPU cool!

Here is a typical cooling fan, located inside any laptop. The copper fins on the left side of the picture are usually right behind some vent holes on the side of a laptop. They keep the processor cool. The fan sucks air (and DUST) in, and sends the air (but not the DUST) out past the copper fins. The dust will stop at the leading edge of the fins. Get enough dust build up, (common in Colorful Colorado), the air cant get past the fins, the computer overheats, and shuts down.
