☀️ Beat the Heat & Protect Our Water Supply! ☀️

Whew, Maury County, it is a scorcher out there this week! When the heat cranks up, we know everyone is looking for ways to stay cool and comfortable. But high temperatures also mean our community’s power and water systems faces a major workout.

We’re asking our neighbors to help us conserve energy with a few simple, everyday adjustments:

🕰Time it Right: If you are watering your lawn or garden, do it in the early morning or late evening. Watering during the heat of the day causes most of it to evaporate before it ever hits the roots.

💦Check for Hidden Leaks: At CPWS, we work hard behind the scenes to keep our physical grid infrastructure running tightly, maintaining a water leak-loss rate that is a fraction of the state average. You can do your part at home by checking outdoor spigots, hoses, and pool valves for any sneaky drips.

🧙‍♀️Sweep, Don’t Hose: Use a broom instead of a water hose to clear off your driveway, sidewalks, or patio. It saves hundreds of gallons of treated water!

⚡ Easy Ways to Save Electricity:
🌡Give Your AC a Break: Set your thermostat to 76°F (or as high as comfortably possible) when you are home. Every degree you raise it helps ease the load on your air conditioner and keeps your bill down.

🌄Block the Sun: Close your blinds, drapes, or curtains during the day—especially on windows that face the afternoon sun. It naturally blocks out solar heat so your AC doesn't have to fight so hard.

🍽Shift Your Appliance Load: Delay using heat-producing appliances like clothes dryers, ovens, and dishwashers until the cooler evening hours. This helps prevent extra humidity inside your house and reduces peak demand on the local electric grid.

🚧 Prioritize Safety First:
Most importantly, take care of yourselves and your family. Check on elderly neighbors, keep your pets hydrated in the shade, and drink plenty of water.

By making a few small shifts today, we ensure our utility supply stays robust, reliable, and affordable for the whole community tomorrow.

Stay safe, stay cool, and if you ever need us, our local team is right down the street and ready to help!

💧 Your 2025 Water Quality Report is Available! 💧

At Columbia Power & Water Systems, transparency and reliability are at the core of everything we do. We treat your utility dollars and your health as a public trust, which is why we are proud to share that our annual Water Quality Report (Consumer Confidence Report) is now officially available to view online.

This report details exactly where your water comes from, how it is treated, and the rigorous testing it undergoes every single day to ensure it meets — and exceeds—all state and federal safety standards.

As your hometown municipal utility, our success is entirely intertwined with the health and future of Maury County. Whether it's practicing proactive environmental stewardship of the Duck River or keeping our water infrastructure leak-loss rate at a fraction of the state average, we are constantly working behind the scenes to deliver clean, dependable water straight to your tap.

UPDATES: Both CPWS and SmartHub have confirmed that no breach of data has occurred. This appears to be the latest scam as multiple utilities are reporting customers receiving threatening calls. We continue to encourage CPWS customers not to post bills with identifying information online and ensure all passwords are secure.

🚨 SCAM ALERT: Urgent Notice for CPWS Customers 🚨

We have received reports that a highly sophisticated group is targeting CPWS customers with phishing phone calls.

Here is why this scam is tricky: These scammers have obtained specific account information, including actual CPWS account numbers, statement due dates, past payment dates, and exact bill amounts. To make it worse, they are using a cloned recording of our actual CPWS phone line to make themselves sound official.

CPWS has confirmed the breach did not come from our systems.

Please protect yourself and your business by remembering these absolute rules:

🚫 We will NEVER call you out of the blue demanding immediate payment over the phone to prevent a same-day shutoff.

🚫 We will NEVER ask you to purchase prepaid debit cards, gift cards, or cryptocurrency to settle a bill.

🚫 We will NEVER ask you to verify sensitive personal information over an unverified, incoming call.

🧾NEVER post your bill with any identifying information or details online.

👉 What should you do? If you receive a suspicious call from someone claiming to be CPWS — even if they know your account number or sound exactly like our automated recording — hang up immediately. Do not use the phone number they give you. Instead, call our local team directly at 931-388-4833 or log into SmartHub to verify your account status.
