☀️ Beat the Heat & Protect Our Water Supply! ☀️
Whew, Maury County, it is a scorcher out there this week! When the heat cranks up, we know everyone is looking for ways to stay cool and comfortable. But high temperatures also mean our community’s power and water systems faces a major workout.
We’re asking our neighbors to help us conserve energy with a few simple, everyday adjustments:
🕰Time it Right: If you are watering your lawn or garden, do it in the early morning or late evening. Watering during the heat of the day causes most of it to evaporate before it ever hits the roots.
💦Check for Hidden Leaks: At CPWS, we work hard behind the scenes to keep our physical grid infrastructure running tightly, maintaining a water leak-loss rate that is a fraction of the state average. You can do your part at home by checking outdoor spigots, hoses, and pool valves for any sneaky drips.
🧙♀️Sweep, Don’t Hose: Use a broom instead of a water hose to clear off your driveway, sidewalks, or patio. It saves hundreds of gallons of treated water!
⚡ Easy Ways to Save Electricity:
🌡Give Your AC a Break: Set your thermostat to 76°F (or as high as comfortably possible) when you are home. Every degree you raise it helps ease the load on your air conditioner and keeps your bill down.
🌄Block the Sun: Close your blinds, drapes, or curtains during the day—especially on windows that face the afternoon sun. It naturally blocks out solar heat so your AC doesn't have to fight so hard.
🍽Shift Your Appliance Load: Delay using heat-producing appliances like clothes dryers, ovens, and dishwashers until the cooler evening hours. This helps prevent extra humidity inside your house and reduces peak demand on the local electric grid.
🚧 Prioritize Safety First:
Most importantly, take care of yourselves and your family. Check on elderly neighbors, keep your pets hydrated in the shade, and drink plenty of water.
By making a few small shifts today, we ensure our utility supply stays robust, reliable, and affordable for the whole community tomorrow.
Stay safe, stay cool, and if you ever need us, our local team is right down the street and ready to help!
