Microsoft, Norton, McAfee, Epson, or any other reputable company will *never* call you to tell you you have a virus. Do not engage! Do NOT give them access to your computer, or any form of payment!

"hacked" means someone has TAKEN OVER your account. You cannot gain access to it. If you get access back, you'll need to change your password, and possibly your email.

"duplicated" or "cloned" or "used as phishing bait" means that someone has made a COPY of your account. They used their own email and password to do this, but filled in the details with your name, etc. They looked at your public friends list and sent out friends requests to everyone else. In this case, changing your password or email, etc, won't do any good. Having people report YOUR account, or making a new account, won't do any good!

Have people report ONLY THE NEW ACCOUNT. Do not have them report YOURS.

To avoid the cloning of your account in the future, consider setting your audience to either just friends, or friends of friends, but NOT public. The public is what gets you.

Remember, folks! HACKED and SPOOFED are not the same thing!!!!

If your FB (or any other account) is HACKED, it means that someone got your actual user name and password, and are making changes to your ACTUAL account.

If your account got SPOOFED, it means that someone has just copied your name, profile pic, etc. and are using them on a NEW and DIFFERENT account that looks similar to yours, making friends requests to who you're already friends with, but doesn't actually make changes to YOUR account.

In the case of HACKING, the victim needs to change their password, possibly their email password that's connected to the account, and other smart safety steps.

In the case of SPOOFING, the victim just needs to REPORT the other account as a fake account, and do nothing to their own.

Making your profile, pictures, and posts FRIENDS only or FRIENDS of FRIENDS only will keep outsiders from seeing and copying your stuff.
