Print Crimes: white ink on a white shirt.

It looked great on the mockup. Then it showed up on an actual shirt and disappeared.

Its cousins: navy on black, pale yellow on white, gray on heather gray. All fine on a bright screen. All gone from across a parking lot.

The fix is the squint test. Stand back from the mockup and squint. If the logo disappears, it'll disappear on the shirt too.

Printer Dictionary, word three: spot color.

A spot color is one ink, premixed to match a numbered swatch. You'll hear it called PMS or Pantone color.

The other way to make color is CMYK: tiny dots of cyan, magenta, yellow and black that your eye blends together. Most business cards and flyers print that way. Most screen printed shirts use spot inks.

That's why your red can look a little different on your shirts than on your cards. Two processes, two slightly different reds.

The fix: know your PMS number and give it to every printer. It gets both as close as each process allows.

Save this, then go find your brand's PMS number.

Product Spotlight: the retractable banner.

At a trade show, people decide whether to stop in the few seconds it takes to walk past your booth. Your banner does most of that work.

A retractable banner rolls down into its own base and stands back up in about a minute.

The tip nobody tells you: keep your logo and your one-line message in the top two-thirds. The bottom ends up behind a table, a chair or somebody's knees.

Vector vs raster: the reason your printer keeps asking for "the AI file." Swipe through.

Raster files are built from pixels: JPG, PNG, GIF, PSD. Perfect for photos. Blow a logo up and the edges turn to stairs.

Vector files are built from math: points, lines and curves. AI, SVG, EPS, and PDFs made in a vector program. Business card or billboard, the edge stays sharp.

Quick check: zoom way in. Still crisp? Probably vector. And renaming a JPG to .pdf doesn't change what's inside.

Ask a Printer: why does screen print have a minimum?

Because every color in your design gets its own screen. Each one gets coated, exposed, lined up on the press, then cleaned when the run's done.

That setup takes the same time for 24 shirts or 500. On a big run it disappears into the price. On six shirts, it is the price.

That's why screen print starts at 24 per design. Need just a few? DTF has no minimum, and it handles full color.

But a file that looks perfect on your phone is rarely ready for a press. It's usually too small, the colors are built for a screen, and the AI left a few surprises in the details.

So every AI design gets preflight first: we check it, fix it and build a print-ready file. It's a flat fee per design, quoted before we start. No surprises at pickup.

A flyer under a wiper blows away. A flyer in a mailbox breaks federal law. A door hanger stays on the k**b until somebody opens the door, so it gets picked up and read.

Myth: make it bigger and it'll print fine.

Enlarging an image adds pixels, not detail. The software guesses what goes in between, and on a shirt or a sign that guess looks soft and blocky.

The printer's math: pixels ÷ 300 = the inches it prints sharp. A 1080-pixel Instagram image prints crisp at about 3.6 inches. Want it bigger? You need a larger original, a vector file, or a rebuild.
