With great power comes great responsibility
Microsoft just rolled out GPT-5 across its ecosystem. Now available in GitHub Copilot, VS Code, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Copilot Studio, and Azure AI Foundry. (for paid plans where applicable)
It’s a major leap for developers. Better reasoning, deeper context awareness, smarter multi-step logic, and hopefully more concise/comprehensive memory 🤔🙄
But here’s the thing:
When you link GitHub to GPT-powered tools, you explicitly grant them access. But unfortunately, opening doors can also let in uninvited guests.
If your repo is public, it’s already visible and vulnerable to deep-dive analysis — whether via AI mining or human scrutiny. Even with private repos, misconfigurations or overly permissive access can create risk.
If your repository contains sensitive code, business logic, or anything you wouldn’t want public… treat it as if it could be public.
Scrub your repos. Audit your commits. Don’t feed the AI what you can’t afford to share.
AI is powerful.
So is the responsibility that comes with it.
