Did you know Connie Matthews Reynolds, our Founder and CEO of Reyncon, and Todd Matthews, co-owner of Sweet Nate's Coffee Shop, are siblings? đ
Today, we're featuring Todd and the story behind Sweet Nate'sâa business built on friendship, family, and a shared love for great coffee. To give you a glimpse into his journey, Todd answered a few questions about his inspiration, vision, and what makes Sweet Nate's so special. Here's what he had to say:
What inspired you to open a coffee shop?
"For years, my best friend, John, and I dreamed of opening a bar, but as we got older, we realized we wanted something different. In 2021, we launched a coffee trailer as a low-cost way to pursue our dream. Fast forward, and we're now proud to have a brick-and-mortar cafĂŠ in the historic Oliver House."
Why is the name âSweet Nate' so special?
"Our dad, Nate, was the neighborhood dadâa tough Air Force guy who drank his coffee black. As teenagers, we jokingly called him âSweet Nate.' The nickname stuck, and now it's the heart of our business. Our logo even comes from a fun photo of him wearing a WWI pilot's helmet and scarf."
What kind of atmosphere do you hope to create?
"We wanted Sweet Nate's to be more than a coffee shop. Between the vinyl records, comfy spaces for conversation, and a dedicated area for work or study, it's all about cool music and great vibes. We're even working with local artists to showcase their work."
What's your favorite item on the menu?
"The Sweet Nate's Cinnamon Cubano Cortadoâit's espresso, raw sugar, cinnamon, and steamed milk. Seriously, it's the perfect blend!"
From their childhood memories with their dad to fulfilling their dreams of running their own businesses, Connie and Todd are proving that family inspires greatness. đ
