Three months ago, Samuel Lopez walked into our shop as a senior from the Rockland BOCES Cyber Security Program. Last week, he walked out with a head full of networking knowledge and a real-world picture of what a career in tech can actually look like.

Over his internship, Samuel got his hands on the kind of work you can't learn from a textbook. He helped fix computers and AT&T equipment. He sorted and filtered parts. He shadowed our staging engineers and the guys at the shop.

He worked alongside team members who showed him networking gear older than Samuel himself — a humbling moment for everyone involved.

That's what an internship should be: a place where a student finds out whether the career they've been imagining actually fits, and whether the people in that career are worth learning from.

Samuel is headed to college to study computer engineering, and we have no doubt he'll be great at it.

Congratulations, Samuel - the door is always open!
