You open the inbox, and three messages came in on Saturday afternoon you totally missed or couldn't get to. One of them was ready to buy.

Someone asked me today whether an AI voice agent can actually tell a real caller from a spam call. The answer is YES!

This morning we got one. Here is the whole thing.

Julie, our AI employee, picks up: “Hi there.”

Caller: “Our system found issues with verification. Please press two immediately to speak with an authorized representative from my pro directory. Your listing may be suspended or not appear in searches if we do not take care of this.”

Caller again: “This will only take a few minutes. Press nine or call this number to opt out.”

Julie: “I am ending this call now.”

Twenty five seconds. Nobody on my team touched the phone. 🙌

Four things gave it away:

🤨 Urgency with a threat attached. Your listing gets suspended.

🤨 An authority nobody can name. An authorized representative from a directory that does not exist.

🤨 A keypad press instead of a conversation. Real people inquiring would ask questions. They do not ask you to press two.

🤨 ❗️An opt out offer. That is bait, not courtesy. Pressing anything confirms the line is live.

Here is the part people miss when they think about this. The win is not that the call got blocked. The win is that it never became a task. No voicemail to check. No number to look up. No one on my team being polite to a robot for forty seconds, times however many of these come in a week.

That is what an AI employee is for. The calls worth having get through. The rest never reach you.
