Morning update: DNS is back up and running.

Domains that had recent changes (since the backup) will have to be redone, but we are working on that now based on email and tickets.

If something doesn't look right by mid-morning, contact us at (501) 327-8558 or [email protected].

I will post when everything settles down about what we will do to do to keep this from happening in the future.

Our ISP’s modem decided now would be a good time to fail, and is now replaced.

We can proceed with the configuration of the new server.

We lost a hard drive this morning on one of our servers. Services will be affected. Working on configuring new server now.

DNS moved to a new physical site. Shows online and working for me. (There may be several minutes of propagation delay, especially if you have been testing.)

If you are still not seeing traffic by 6pm Central (30 minutes from now) let us know.

We are in the process of physically relocating the server to another location until they restore power.

Which pretty much guarantees power will be restored immediately.

Still no specific time estimate given by the electric company, but they are working on our specific route. The pole in the picture is one of the ones between me at the electric substation and the ISP’s NOC.

They started with 10K locations out and are down to 2K at last update.

NOTE: We are working with the .US Registry on a plan that will keep this from happening by moving my DNS services to their servers.

Monday, June 26th:
Yesterday evening we were hit with a storm that included 80 mph straight line winds. This snapped dozens of power poles throughout town. While our datatcenter has underground services, either some of those poles feed our underground feeds, or had to have our service disabled in order to fix them.

Teams have worked through the night and the city has brought in neighboring technicians to speed getting power back. There is no “official” repair time, but most estimates state sometime this morning.

I will post more updates as I get them.

Best news we’ve had out of Microsoft in quite a while.

Microsoft confirmed today that a future Windows update will permanently disable the Internet Explorer web browser on users' systems.

[EDIT: Power is back up and DNS is restored.]

We have received reports of an equipment failure at a substation taking down the electricity for a large area of town about 4000 customers, including our DNS system. Technicians are already on the scene replacing the part.
