So MANY email scams circulating!! Always inspect (by hovering your mouse over any web links) if they display something dubious looking in the bottom left corner of browser... disregard the whole thing instantly... also if they claim to be the geek squad and your getting an email from [email protected]... that's a lie.

Anyone with long standing email addresses has had some or all of their info leaked... enough to craft a confusingly detailed email... you can check which data breaches YOUR email has been involved in by putting your email address into https://haveibeenpwned.com/ it will detail which breaches and what data has been leaked... it's a strong argument for creating 2 new email accounts...
1) a new primary for important matters and
2) a decoy for when you're forced to give someone (that might be dubious) an email address... the great news is a new email address doesn't come with spam.

REMEMBER... if they are legit and actually know YOU they can use actual mail address.

A new wave of MalWare/LieWare/ScareWare has been circulating, claiming to know your user password and extorting a ransom or exposing your p**n habits to everyone in your address book... this and all spam are a result of the many data breaches that long term emails have been exposed to... to check your email account against the last many years of data breaches... https://haveibeenpwned.com/

if your email address HAS been involved with one or many of these breaches, the only good answer is to create a new address and migrate to it.

A friends Facebook account just got cloned which I researched to help with and found this easy answer...

I think the deal is they don't need your password to see your picture and know your friends. To change that Rick said...

1 – Log in to your Facebook account using your preferred web browser.

2 – Click on your name in the upper right-hand corner in order to go to your Timeline.

3 – Click the Friends link.

4 – Click the pencil shaped icon just to the right of the “Find Friends” button.

5 – Click Edit Privacy.

6 – On the line that reads “Who can see your friend list?“, click the down arrow at the far right and select Only me.

7 – Click Done.

I just changed mine, a strong defense vs cloning.

https://haveibeenpwned.com/ is a website to check if your email address has been effected by any of the many data breaches of the last few years... and if so...

You should at LEAST change a password if not delete old email account & recreate a new email account.

This is also why a strong unique password is so important for your different accounts, because if you use the same password and one account is compromised, a malicious menace now knows what password you used once (and possibly always).

If you have SPAM problems this may be why... SPAM is the obnoxious visible byproduct of data breach... the invisible problems could be much worse !
