Program frozen and won’t close? Before you hold down the power button, try this.

Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager. Click the stuck program in the list, then click End task.

Heads up: any unsaved work in that program may be lost — one more reason to save often!

If things freeze up a lot, that’s worth a closer look. Bring it by either shop.

Text on a website too small to read? Make it bigger in a second.

In your web browser:
Ctrl + plus (+) = bigger
Ctrl + minus (−) = smaller
Ctrl + 0 (zero) = back to normal

Or hold Ctrl and roll your mouse wheel — that works in lots of other programs too, like Word and Excel.

Closed a browser tab by accident? Don’t go hunting for it.

Press Ctrl + Shift + T and it pops right back. Press it again to bring back the tab before that.

Works in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. (Closed the whole browser window? It can bring that back too.)

Phones get dropped, lost, and left on the roof of the truck. Your photos don’t have to go with them.

iPhone: open Settings → tap your name → iCloud → Photos, and turn on syncing.
Android: open the Google Photos app, tap your profile picture, and turn on Backup.

Free storage is limited (iCloud includes 5 GB, Google includes 15 GB shared with Gmail), so you may need a small storage upgrade if you have lots of pictures.

Extra safe: every few months, copy your photos to a computer or an external drive too. Two copies in two places = peace of mind.

Juggling email, a browser, and a spreadsheet? Skip the trip down to the taskbar.

Hold Alt and tap Tab. You'll see all your open windows — keep tapping Tab to move through them, then let go of Alt to jump to the one you want.

A quick Alt + Tab flips back and forth between your last two windows. Super handy.

One of the best things you can do for your accounts takes about 5 minutes.

Turn on 2-Step Verification (also called two-factor authentication). After you type your password, you also enter a code from your phone. Even if a scammer steals your password, they still can’t get in.

Start with your email — it’s the key to resetting everything else. Then do Facebook and your bank.

Look in each account’s Security settings for “2-Step Verification” or “Two-factor authentication.”

One rule: never read that code to anyone who calls, texts, or emails asking for it. Real companies won’t ask.

Want a hand setting it up? Stop by either shop.

Looking for one word on a long page? Don’t scroll — search.

Press Ctrl + F, type the word, and it jumps right to it (and highlights every match). Works in web browsers, Word, and most PDFs.

Great for finding a price on a menu, a date in a long document, or your name on a sign-up sheet.

(Heads up: in the Outlook email program, Ctrl + F forwards an email instead — use the search box at the top there.)

Scam emails and fake websites are getting slicker — here’s how to slow down and check:

• Urgency (“act now or your account closes!”) is a red flag
• Hover over links before you click — does the real address look right?
• Watch for misspelled domains (amaz0n, microsof’t, etc.)
• Type important URLs yourself instead of clicking
• A padlock / HTTPS alone isn’t enough — fake sites use those too

Not sure? Call us before you click. We help with Break Fix and Managed IT security for local businesses and homes.
