If Microsoft Copilot is on your radar this year, here's something worth understanding before you switch it on: Copilot can only reach the files your team can already open. It works inside the access each account already has and it can read across all of it at once as soon as someone asks it a question.
For a lot of small offices around New Jersey, Microsoft 365 setups usually grow one user and one shared folder at a time – people get added to things and permissions rarely get removed. It works fine until you put a tool on top that can read everything in seconds.
The good news is that this is quick to sort out. A review of who can open what tells you where Copilot is safe to work and where you'd want to tighten access first.
