Finished my 1553 control box tester! I now have the ability to bench test 12v and 24v Webasto 1553 control boxes! This test box allows me to simulate full heat cycles and failure scenarios. It can simulate a working or broken flame detector, and it can also simulated working or failed control and limit thermostats!

Well, it's been an interesting 24 hours. Until this morning, I was a long standing member of a large technical support Facebook group intended to help owners of hydronic heating systems (think Aquahot, Hydrohot, Webasto, etc. . .).

I always posted to the group with the intent of helping people solve problems. Sometimes my posts would promote products or services that Cap Clinic offered with respect to someone's specific issue. Sadly, this behavior was frowned upon by an Admin. It was suggested that I start my own group where I and more importantly, others, could promote competitive products and services to those offered by them.

I have since voluntarily left the group and I created a Facebook group where anyone can come and ask for support / advice with respect to their hydronic heating issues. More importantly, a place where anyone (not just Cap Clinic) can promote products and services specifically related to the mission of the group.

I have no idea what will become of this new group, maybe it will crash a burn, but I will continue to do what I have always done; try to help others solve problems.

BREAKING NEWS!

I am happy to announce that we have improved our 1553 control box rebuild cycle time from 3-7 days down to less than twenty-four hours!! Not only that, but we can now also test all of the 12v and 24v control boxes shown in this post!

Our test box (photo 1) will work with Webasto burners (found in Webasto, Aquahot, and Hydrohot units) that use the 1553 12v or 24v control boxes (photos 2-6) shown below.

A burner test box allows you to manually control the different components of your Webasto burner. It takes the place of your 1553 control box and allows you to manually and individually test the blower motor, fuel solenoid, coil/ignitors, and flame sensor.

A failure of any one of these manual tests indicates that your burner unit has issues unrelated to your 1553 control box. This can be immensely helpful in diagnosing Webasto burner issues.
