Hopped-Up History - Hollywood Thwarted

It is well known that in 1979 Fozzie Bear drove the Studebaker Commander into celebrity.

Sharing the same pedigree as Commander (Designer Raymond Loewy) Avanti felt it was only right that someday, it too, would enjoy the bright lights of Hollywood! Sure, it lacked that unmistakable bullet-nose the camera loved, but surely it compensated for this omission with a sleekness not to be rivaled!

In fact, Avanti would stop at nothing to achieve its goal, and this is where our story of Hopped-Up History begins.

It would seem as though there were literally an endless number of attempts, resulting in the same amazement - declines for leading car roles following audition after audition...

“Incompatible with Orange Track” - Well who needs a stupid toy company anyway?
“Atomic Batteries to Power, Turbines to Speed”...Oh s**t. Avanti had neither.
“Not enough Gizmos”. Getting “Slimed” by that floating green whatever seemed demeaning anyway.
And no one, to this day, knows which Droid took such issue with Avanti. “Lacks adequate ”FORCE”. What in the Hell did that even mean...?
Following that was the infamous run-in with none other than the "Big Guy" himself - You want me to fly??? Seriously?
It would be anyone’s guess, what might come next...? “Applicants must be equipped with hood-mounted machine guns and rocket launcher” Say that again...?

I think you’re getting the picture (pardon our pun)

There would seemingly be no room for Avanti in Tinseltown.

Strangely enough, this story has a deliciously happy ending though. So you’ll just have to continue collecting this cool sticker line available only at Studebaker Brewing Co. to figure it out.

It will be fun to grow this Studebaker collection over the coming months. I love drawing Studebakers, the design aesthetic over the years is quite varied. From Raymond Loewy and beyond, some very cool stuff.

The second 2 in this first collection of Studebaker can designs...the Sceptre was particularly fun to draw, some very funky stuff going on...! Interesting that the same guy, Industrial Designer Brooks Stevens, also designed the Weinermobile...!

Here's the second design in the car inspired series I'm working on for Studebaker Brewing, the Avanti. What a cool car! I counted approaching 20 such car inspired beers so I'll be drawing cars for a while yet...:)

Thank you to everyone who responded and provided feedback on this project. I very much appreciate your comments! Here's the design we proceeded with sampling for our first run. The imagery of the Wagonaire was refined a bit in its detailing and a combination of content - HOPS being info related to the Wagonaire beer and HISTORY related to the Wagonaire car. This all supportive of Studebaker Brewing Co's brand positioning - Hops & History. Thanks again!

I'm currently working on one of my favorite design projects, beer can label packaging. These specific iterations have been designed for the Studebaker Brewing Co. They have a great series of beers named after Studebaker car models covering a broad range of both models and vintages! They requested designs that would include information appealing to car enthusiasts. We've done the attached 2 designs for the Avanti and Wagonaire respectively, each with the same front presentation but with different treatments for the laying out of car model specifications. The labeled can is shown on the left and the flat label art on the right. I'd appreciate your preference between the 2 different layouts, and why, if you care to further elaborate. Thanks much!

We've been having a blast working with the Studebaker Brewing folks! And if you haven't yet tried Studebaker Brewing Co. beer, you absolutely should! Its among the best in northern IN!
