Annual maintenance of your standby generator is highly recommended, but is no substitute for testing functionality.

Most individuals have their installers set the “exercising” schedule at a weekly or bi-weekly interval. The unit runs for 5-10 minutes, shuts down and doesn’t run again until the next scheduled maintenance run. That’s great, but here’s the problem. That only verifies a part of the operation.

What isn’t tested during this “exercising” period is the transfer of power required once utility power loss is sensed. What does that mean? No Transfer of power…NO LIGHTS!
