🎨✨ This Black History Month, we shine a spotlight on Sylvia Harris, a trailblazing African-American graphic designer and design strategist whose work has profoundly impacted the public sector. Known for her pioneering role in social impact design, Harris' projects, like the transformative redesign of the 2000 US Census, have made information more accessible and user-friendly for all.

Sylvia Harris dedicated her career to using design as a tool to solve pressing issues for civic agencies, universities, and hospitals, always aiming to enhance public life. Her commitment to civic improvement and social equity set a benchmark in the design community, inspiring a new generation of designers to follow in her footsteps.

Today, Sylvia’s legacy continues to inspire through the Sylvia Harris Citizen Design Award, which recognizes and supports designers who are committed to creating socially responsible and community-oriented projects.

In honor of Sylvia Harris and many other black designers who have utilized their skills for positive change, we're proud to offer our "No Culture" shirt this Black History Month. Join us in celebrating their contributions and pushing for greater representation and inclusion in the design industry. 🎨✨ Celebrating Lois Mailou Jones, a pivotal figure in African American art whose vibrant works have left a lasting legacy. Born in Boston, Jones was a prodigy whose talent was nurtured from an early age by her working-class parents who emphasized the importance of education and hard work.

After her studies at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Jones made her mark in New York as a textile designer before transitioning to academia. She founded the art department at Palmer Memorial Institute in North Carolina, where her roles were as diverse as her talents— from coaching basketball to playing piano at Sunday services.

Jones' influential career continued at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where she mentored future art luminaries like David Driskell and Elizabeth Catlett. In 1970, she was commissioned as a cultural ambassador to Africa by the United States Information Agency, a role that deeply influenced her work and led her to explore African subjects in her art.

Jones' dedication to art and education has inspired generations. Embrace her legacy and influence by getting your hands on our limited edition , featuring a graphic inspired by her stunning paintings. Celebrate Black/Our History with us and honor a true art pioneer. 🌟

🎨✨ Celebrate the legacy of Elizabeth Catlett this Black/Our History Month—a sculptor and graphic artist who masterfully depicted the Black-American experience. Born in Washington, D.C., Catlett rose above the challenges of her era to become a pivotal figure in art and activism, particularly emphasizing the female perspective.

In 1946, Catlett's journey took a significant turn when she received a fellowship to work in Mexico City with the Taller de Gráfica Popular, where she spent two decades honing her craft and eventually led the sculpture department at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas. Her unique style blends abstract and figurative elements, drawing from African and Mexican art traditions and embodying the principles of social realism.

Catlett's dedication to exploring themes of race, gender, and class earned her numerous accolades, including the prestigious Legends and Legacy Award from the Art Institute of Chicago and a Lifetime Achievement Award in contemporary sculpture from the International Sculpture Center. Her works continue to inspire and educate, making her an enduring figure in the study of art and social issues.

As we reflect on her profound impact, let's honor Elizabeth Catlett's memory by continuing to engage with and celebrate her art, which shines a light on pivotal cultural and societal issues. 🌟
