The weather app on your phone doesn’t tell you if a safety policy is violated.

California schools: SB 1248, now Education Code 33355, took full effect yesterday. 🌡️

Every district, county office of education, and charter school is now required to have a written protocol for outdoor activity during extreme heat: PE, recess, and school sports included.

The tricky part? A lot of existing plans look solid but have real gaps, like relying on a phone's temperature reading, or leaving the "should we cancel?" call to whoever happens to be around that afternoon.

We broke down 4 of the most common gaps and how to fix each one. Take a look, and share it with the administrator or athletic director who needs it.

We’ve brought two additions to your Perry Weather dashboard:

Rain rate shows how intensely it’s raining right now. Shown in inches per hour and updated every 5 minutes, it’s an early heads up for flash flooding.

On top of that, we’ve added rolling rain totals across 1, 3, 6, 12 and 24 hours so you finally see true overnight totals without the midnight reset.

Camp Nakanawa’s new Perry Weather advanced warning system successfully alerted campers and staff to a tornado warning last night in our area. Everyone safely waited in shelters as the storm passed.  Nakanawa is ready to open our Four Week session tomorrow after clearing up scattered debris around camp.  We cannot wait to see everyone!  We girls are very lucky people to have a place like Nakanawa.  Our thanks go out to Perry Weather's accurate and efficient system.

Steve and Heather break down how their programs keep the hours without cutting corners on safety, and Dave shows the data on exactly how many days you'll actually be affected.

The World Cup is in our backyard, and our team can’t stop talking about it. ⚽

Several folks in the office grabbed tickets to the Dallas Stadium matches, and it’s been fun watching a building full of weather people get this invested in soccer.

It also hits close to home to what we work on every day. Heat has been a genuine concern at games across the country, and our live heat stress tracker lets anyone see current conditions at each World Cup stadium. Pretty handy whether you’re in the stands, or just deciding when to head out.
