🌟 Team Member Spotlight: John Davies
Meet John Davies, Director of Communications & Technology, who has been part of the Dalton Utilities family since June 14, 2000. A 5th generation Daltonian, John lives in Tunnel Hill with his wife, their dog, and is a proud father of two adult sons and grandfather to two grandchildren. Outside of work, John enjoys a wide range of hobbies including fishing, cooking, video games, martial arts, and hiking.
John’s journey at Dalton Utilities began as a temp in the Information Technology group, where he quickly learned the ins and outs of the field. Over the years, he has taken on various roles, growing into a leadership position and playing a key role in the development of OptiLink. He was part of the early efforts to build one of the first municipal fiber networks in the country and help bring fiber-to-the-home services to the Dalton community. Reflecting on that experience, John shared, “To be a part of the project, at ‘ground floor’, was a real privilege.” In his current role, he continues to support innovation and reliability across our systems, finding fulfillment in the impact of his work. “It’s satisfying when some effort on my part helps to make our operation run just a little bit better,” he says.
John is a strong believer in OptiLink and the value it brings to the community. He noted that the services have “changed expectations about how a telecommunications provider should treat their customers,” benefiting even those who may not directly use them. After more than two decades, John proudly considers himself a “lifer” and appreciates the opportunities for growth and collaboration along the way.
When asked what he enjoys most about being part of Dalton Utilities/OptiLink, John shared, “It’s a real blessing to enjoy what you do for a living.”
