This week, we sat down with Drew Meaux, our Head of Operations, to talk about his journey in IT, what drives his passion for technology, and what they enjoy most about helping our clients succeed. 💻🔧

1. What first sparked your interest in technology, and how did that lead you to join the ProTech team?
To be honest, I wasn’t sure I wanted to go into tech until I was at Centre. I have always had the “tinkering” mindset to figure out how to make technology work (i.e. my family’s own personal IT Tech), but at Centre I started to truly learn how things do what they do.
I’ve been with ProTech since its beginning nearly 3 years ago and I think a lot of the excitement in working here comes from the freedom and ingenuity that is encouraged in developing unique solutions to find the right fit for us and our clients. Not every business is the same, so you can’t necessary approach each person or problem in the same way either.
2. What’s your favorite part of working in IT, and what’s one challenge you enjoy solving for clients?
I love helping people and saving the day; no matter how big or small the problem ends up being, I love the moments where I get to be the computer superhero. Similarly, I find myself drawn to cybersecurity and making sure people’s data and machines are as safe as they can be in a world where bad actors will take advantage of the smallest vulnerability. In less tech speak, I love getting to be Computer Superman swooping in to fight the bad guys and save the day!
3. Tell us about your background — what experiences or education helped shape your career in tech?
I graduated from Mercer County Schools in 2016 and Centre College in 2020 with a Bachelor’s in Math & Computer Science. I got my first IT Technician job immediately after graduating, and throughout the years have worked through enough Ransomware attacks and potential network attacks to gain an eye for Cybersecurity. Recently, I have been able to devote time to deepening that knowledge and earn my Security+ certification (which I’m hoping will be the first of many cybersecurity certifications).
4. Outside of work, what hobbies or interests do you enjoy?
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, spending time with friends, indulging a slight coffee obsession (The Hub Coffee House + Cafe, Dry Stack Coffee, Harrod's Perk and Chill: i.e. my regular visits), but most of my free time is dedicated to karate at US Yoshukai Karate Kentucky. I’ve been a student for the past 5 years and earned my black belt last November. I love to help teach the other students while I continue learning new things. My next goal is to earn my second-degree black belt in the coming years.
5. What do you enjoy most about working at ProTech and serving our local community?
I’ve grown up and been around this area for my whole life, so I love being able to help local businesses thrive and assist in helping the community grow and operate smoothly. It’s a cool feeling when you can see the effect of your job in the day to day lives of the people around you. I take pride in driving by offices we’ve helped over the years and knowing that their day is at least a little bit easier because of the work we do.
