Oh no, you missed an insulin dose! Now what?
Managing pet diabetes means things won't always go perfectly - and that's okay. But when it happens, follow these rules from Sammy and Baxter: starting with the golden one: Never double up on insulin!
If you forget a dose, or if your pet wiggles and you aren't sure if the full injection went in, follow these steps:
1️⃣ Don't Panic: Take a deep breath.
2️⃣ Never Double Dose: Giving too much insulin can lead to a severe, life-threatening crash in blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
3️⃣ Better High Than Low: A temporary spike in blood sugar is much safer for your pet's body than a dangerous crash.
4️⃣ Resume the Routine: Simply wait and give their normal dose at the next scheduled mealtime. 5️⃣ When in Doubt, Call: If your pet seems wobbly, unusually lethargic, or you just aren't sure, call your veterinary clinic!
