I think it's amazing that you can see some people every day and never know the kind things that they do without boasting, or bragging. Things that make our community better. Mary and Rodney Lindell were like that. Mary was a teacher at Darlington High School and Rodney worked for Compeer Financial. Rod was one of the original Charter members of the Darlington Lions Club, and volunteered for hundreds of projects to better our community. Mary and Rod donated thousands of dollars over their years in Darlington to the Darlington Fire Department, Darlington High School, the Darlington Lions, the Food Pantry and many other community organizations. They didn't ask for recognition, or plaques. They did it because they were a part of our community and had the financial means to do so, and believed in giving back. Their children, Deanna and Dan, are continuing their parent's tradition of community philanthropy by donating $100,000 to the Darlington Lions for a 50 ft. x 85' pavilion to be built behind Casey's in downtown Darlington. The Rodney and Mary Lindell Memorial pavilion will used for Canoe Festival and other community activities. The total building project is estimated to be $195,000. With the the Lindell contribution and the Lions $10,000 contribution, the Darlington Lions Club is kicking off a fund drive to secure the $85,000 balance. Any businesses, organizations or individuals who might be interested in donating can contact Jared Reuter at (608) 642-2811 or Deb Pickett at (608)482-4726. The Wiegel Strong Foundation has generously partnered to allow the use of their 501c3 for the deposit of larger donations that are in need of the necessary tax deductions. I think that Rodney and Mary Lindell (and their family) are examples of how much QUIET KINDNESS can be spread to make our community a better place. Thank you Lindell family for exemplifying dedication to our community and gifting to allow for life-long community use.
