New model out today!!! Introducing the LF2s! The LF2 is a lofi intercom mic and I'm selling these as a stereo pair! $75 for the pair. Made from reclaimed electronics. Comes in the original box. Available now at Encore Instrument Repair: Dayton Musician's Service Since 1986 in Dayton!
A little about the LF2:
You can use these on anything, but far and away the best use I've found for them is on a bass cab. I was trying to make a sub kick when I made my first intercom mic, the LF1. What I didn't consider before I tried it on a kick drum, was the frequency response of the intercom speaker that functions as the mic element. It's almost all midrange! Just like the phones in a lot of ways, but with a little wider response. It doesn't handle low end very well at all. So, when I put it on a kick drum, the drum just destroyed the mic! Almost sounded like an 808 or something. Pretty cool, but what would it sound like on a bass cab? So I put it in front of a clean bass amp at a moderate volume, and it fuzzed out in the most glorious way! I've been using the LF1 on the bass amp for every session I've done in the studio since! I mic the amp with a "good" mic and run a DI into a cool old pre, like I always do, and then I just add a little bit of the fuzz mic in to add some harmonics to taste!
It'll also add a little dirt to vocals, especially when you hit it kinda hard. Will do a cool dynamic thing where it breaks up with your dynamics. Sing softer it's cleaner, get loader it'll fuzz out!
Also, I should I add, if anything ever goes wrong with a LoFio product, just bring it into the shop and I'll fix it up for ya!
