I'm a bit of a Tech person, bit of a geek/nerd when it comes to technology. I don't play with the latest and greatest, but I do keep up with what's going on with trends. I just saw this earlier today, and if you ever wanted a reason to get the hell off of and away from Microsoft, then this right here is it. And if after watching this, you want an alternative to Windows, let me know, and I can help you out.

In this video I discuss how Microsoft's CoPilot+ PC's will bring new levels of spyware to the computing space with "features" like recall that literally reco...

Replacing that old computer? No idea what to buy? Do you think the sales person is just trying to scam you into an unnecessary up sell? These are all very good questions!

This is one of the things that I enjoy doing, helping people become more comfortable and confident with their technology needs.

I have helped many people when they are looking for a new computer to determine the best device for them, to help them avoid paying for more than they need. And even help them shop around for a better deal.

I will ask you some questions to help you tailor your purchase to your current and future needs.

Feel free to reach out and ask questions. I'm happy to help.

PSA: When throwing away your PC or laptop, make sure you wipe all your data off the hard drive. It's amazing the things I've found on them.

As long as the internet has been around, there have been scams to take your money from you. Some are very simple, some more complex.

One of the easiest ways is to prey upon your fears that you will lose everything if you don't act now. Or that they detected a virus on your computer and if you don't follow their instructions now, you'll lose all of your data.

Also, when you receive a phone call claiming to be from Microsoft or some other repair agency that detected issues with your system, and they need to take care of it by remoting into your machine to fix it.

Please be aware that this is a scam! Microsoft will NEVER contact you regarding a virus on your system. And this bares repeating. Microsoft will NEVER contact you about issues with your computer. They rarely contact multi-million/billion dollar companies that there are problems.

These are the people that will attempt to charge you to connect to your machine in order to put spyware or malware on your system to be able to connect to or monitor your system to get sensitive data from your computer, such as passwords, banking information, or just your facebook account.

What should you do in this situation? Tell them you already have a PC technician that takes care of your system and hang up. And make sure that you don't allow them to connect to your system at all.

And remember, if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.

I've been asked many times, "I'm looking to buy a new computer, what do you suggest?"

What a loaded question this is. There are so many factors to consider when looking to purchase a new computer. Are you just a casual user who only gets on there to check Facebook statuses and email and surf the web? Are you a gamer who's looking to run the latest games with the graphics wide open? Or are you the business owner who could care less about graphics, but wants redundancy and safety in everything you do?

If you're the true casual user, you might not even want a computer, but a tablet of some sort. Tablets are a great way to surf the internet, get/read your email, check Facebook, and even do some occasional things with Google Docs.

If you're a gamer, do you care about upgrading components down the road, or do you want the portability of a high end laptop?

For the business owner, do you want to take your computer with you? Or do you want the stability of a home system that can be both protected and backed up on a regular basis?

So many questions that you need to answer for yourself honestly.

But, just like when finding a quality vehicle technician, find someone you can trust to help you answer those questions honestly for yourself and can help you find what you need, whether that be an off the shelf system, or something built with the latest parts to purchase.

A question to all. Have you backed up lately? It is surprisingly easy to lose your data due to any number of reasons. Hard drive crash, virus, or simple mis-click. And it can happen to anyone, including us IT folks.

With that in mind, always keep multiple copies, including some somewhere off-line, such as a USB flash drive in a fire proof box. Or keep one in a safe deposit box, or both. Backup often because it's not a matter of if, but when your system will crash.

If you have questions, feel free to contact me.
