This week marks seven years of Roo Bea Design Co.!
It began with just one person, one dream, and a whole lot of hard work. Having grown up in Western Iowa, Meriah enjoyed the opportunity to design exhibition panels highlighting the life of a man who lived only 16 miles down the road from her. The exhibition, Dwight Lamb | Music of Two Continents, is currently on display at the Museum of Danish America. Check it out to learn more about this Iowa native who was an internationally respected fiddler and accordion player.

The warm weekend ahead has us thinking about spending some time outdoors! One of our favorite nature-related projects was a set of field guide-inspired educational signs for Carroll County Conservation. These displays highlight the swans, eagles, and bison that call Swan Lake State Park home. Roo Bea Design Co. also created their campground map, which is used on signage throughout the park.

Congratulations to our clients at The Old Fashioned Cocktail Bar - Denison, Iowa as they celebrate their first year in business!

This prohibition-era bar had a clear vision of the qualities they wanted in a logo. We provided three distinct concepts based on their creative brief and then made multiple modifications to their chosen option. The final logo family includes a bold typeface-only option, as well as a more intricate "vanity mark" they implemented on their sign. Cheers to The Old Fashioned!

We are so lucky to be part of St. Paddy’s Fest in Denison, Iowa, this Saturday the 15th! We designed the official event logo as well as a hand-drawn leprechaun illustration that adorns their pub crawl koozies. To get a koozie, you’ll have to raise a glass at all three participating bars: The Old Fashioned, Just One More, and Primetimes. The parade starts at 1:00 pm (line up at noon if you want to be IN the parade). Tiney’s Food Truck will be serving up tasty Irish delicacies, and The Crowfoot Rakes will be cranking out Irish tunes starting at 2pm in The Old Fashioned. We wish the best of luck to this exciting new celebration — don’t miss it!

Fellow lovers of design, be sure to check out the Per Arnoldi | Advertising Art exhibit at the Museum of Danish America. His minimalist posters are on display through the end of this month (March 31st). Roo Bea Design Co. was happy to create the informational booklets and exhibition wall decals. However, Arnoldi's design work is the true star of this project!

We were recently tasked with creating the poster for a new film by director Nik Heftman. Nik is known for his Emmy Award-winning work as a producer of “CBS Mornings.” His media production company The Seven Times is a longstanding client of Roo Bea Design Co.

Nik’s documentary is a journey into the world of Caleb Rainey, a Black spoken word poet with artistic roots in eastern Iowa and professionally known as The Negro Artist. Nik’s film seeks to capture the essence of Rainey not just as an artist, but as a vital voice in the ongoing dialogue about race in America.

Inspired by Nik’s creative brief, we created a simple and striking poster to draw interest in the film and Caleb as its central figure. In addition to the poster, we have created promotional print materials and digital imagery to promote the initial screenings taking place across the US. If you are interested in catching a screening, be sure to follow The Seven Times and check the comments below for a list of upcoming screenings.
