Spending the last twelve years learning about microphones and working with many of you and testing microphones and listening carefully to feedback from the local community and feedback from around the world and working with the manufacturers has been a blast!
Obviously, I am not David Josephson, and obviously I do not consider myself an authority in any way. But by making the investment in our local community and providing what I believe are the best currently produced microphones for all of you to test and demo for over a decade now, I have learned quite a bit from you, from industry leaders and from investigating the lay of the land.
The measure of success, is that there are three microphone demos going on at the moment in our community. So mission achieved...
One thing I have learned about the manufacturers I am honored to represent, is that results come from commitment.
AH! The photo. I probably don't have the time or capital to research at the pace I pursued microphones. To vet designs, to understand the basic principles, to listen to a huge number of vintage and currently manufactured gear.
In this particular example, someone already has. But of course there are many options and a large degree of subjectivity, which is where you come in.
RND designs, measures, compares, listens, consults with, in my estimation, the top engineers and producers in the world getting their feedback and then tests, measures and listens again.
But leaving that testament to awesomeness aside, I also have some time listening and working, and I have been asked by people I respect, how I achieved certain sounds.
Considering many options I believe that the Shelford Preamplifier is one of the best out there. It's lineage after all is not just in the name, but a continuation of what has worked in the past and innovation through results in the lab and in the studio.
You might also give a ring to ask about the timing of this post, or possibly not. Of course, there is a reason that two pieces of gear are sitting on your community's demo console this month.
Depending on a variety of factors, we will start the preamp journey here in Colorado to any degree possible.
Most of you know there is quite a bit of agonizing that goes on over here prosecuting the search for answers and standing behind that gear. And obviously, this whole journey is not just about what Tik thinks.
I am very keen to pursue letting as many of you test this as possible.
Now get back to editing or watching the next band or checking the oven....
