How should we be leveraging new technologies for redesigning finance in service of life, and what is needed to make this happen?

That question became the starting point for a journey over the past eight months. And finally, last week on Monday we launched our report “Redesigning Finance in Service of Life” in the record heat of London Climate Action Week.

What began as an attempt to make emerging digital infrastructure more legible to institutional audiences gradually evolved into something much broader. Three distinct worlds are essential to this mission.

📍 Place-based Stewards, rooted in land and community.
🏛️ Institutional Changemakers, who hold mandate, capital and policy support.
🌐 Digital Pioneers, building new infrastructure for finance, governance and coordination.

The opportunity lies in building stronger bridges between these worlds, with place-based communities and stewards at the centre.

ReFi DAO has spent years exploring how emerging technologies can strengthen place-based communities around the world. But the other side was often absent: institutional backing, policy change, capital at scale. Now, we are diving in to that bridge as well.

How do we realize place-based regenerative economies, go from prototype to practice, and replicate the models that work across a global network?

Thanks to authors Monty Bryant, , and Alice Leguay, to Kate Raworth for the foreword and input throughout, and to everyone who has helped shape this journey.

If you’re working at the intersection of technology, institutions or place-based regeneration, let’s connect. And if you’d like a copy of the report, leave a comment or drop a message!

The most powerful coordination mechanism humanity has invented?

Finance. The almighty “invisible hand of market forces” we are taught in neoliberal economics.

But even across mainstream institutions, foundations, investors and policymakers… a quiet consensus is emerging: The old system is broken.

What would a new system look like? How would it be designed differently?

New project coming soon 🌱
