POSSIBLE QUICK FIX FOR AT&T CELL SERVICE ISSUES IN DETROIT LAKES…
As many of you may know, the AT&T service in Detroit Lakes, and nearby areas, has been in and out of service. You may also be experiencing issues if you have Straight Talk or other third party carriers that use AT&T towers. So, if you have an Android or iPhone smartphone, then you should be able to activate Wi-Fi calling on your device. What this does, is, it allows your phone calls to travel through the internet, instead of going to the towers. This will only work if you are in range of a Wi-Fi network and are connected to it. But, it's a quick fix until the towers are up and running consistently!
Just go to your settings, select search at the top, and type in “WiFi calling”.
On Android phones it may show up as “WiFi calling”...just select it, and go through the prompts as it walks you through.
On iPhones it may just show up as “phone”...if that’s the only option in the search results, select that, then scroll down to “WiFi calling”, turn the feature on, and follow the prompts.
Whether you are on an Android or iPhone, if you haven't set it up in the past, the phone will ask for you to verify your home address. Just enter your address, and tap verify to start the process. This process doesn't guarantee that you will receive text messages, it's meant for phone calls.
Also, it wouldn't be a bad idea to turn that feature back off once the towers are up and running consistently. The main reason for that is because while you are on a Wi-Fi phone call, once you go out of range of that Wi-Fi signal, the call will possibly be cut off as it switches connection back to the towers.
To my knowledge there shouldn't be any service charges added to your bill, but it wouldn't hurt to check with your carrier. I've never seen WiFi calling as an extra charge on a carrier's service, but that's my disclaimer. Since I won't be paying anybody’s bills for them. 😉
I just wanted to share this message to possibly help you out!!!
Have a great day! 🙂
