When your systems don't communicate, your people end up doing the communicating for them.

A lead comes through the website.

Someone manually enters the information into the CRM.

Someone else schedules the appointment.

Another person sends the confirmation.

Then someone has to remember to follow up.

Each individual task may only take a few minutes. But multiplied across dozens—or hundreds—of customers, those manual handoffs become hours of unnecessary work.

Connected systems change that.

Information captured on your website can flow into your CRM, update your calendar, trigger communication, and notify your team automatically.

Your people are still involved.

They're just spending less time **moving information** and more time doing the work that actually requires them.

The Automationist Principle:
Your technology should connect the process. Your people should move the business forward.

A customer shouldn't have to understand how your business is organized internally.

They shouldn't need to know which department monitors which inbox, who manages the CRM, or which employee is responsible for the next step.

They should simply experience a smooth process.

Imagine someone schedules an appointment.

The calendar updates.

Confirmation goes out.

The appropriate team member is notified.

Reminders are sent.

The customer's information is already available when the conversation begins.

To the customer, very little happened.

Behind the scenes, several systems may have worked together.

That's what good automation should feel like.

The Automationist Principle:
Customers should experience the outcome—not the complexity behind it.

Not everything that can be automated should be automated.

A useful way to decide what belongs in an automated workflow is to separate
predictable work from judgment-based work.

Sending an appointment reminder is predictable.

Deciding whether a complicated client situation requires a different approach requires judgment.

Moving information from a form into a CRM is predictable.

Having an important conversation with a prospect isn't.

The best systems don't try to eliminate human involvement.

They automate the repetitive work surrounding the moments where people provide the most value.

That's an important distinction as businesses adopt more AI and automation.

The Automationist Principle:
Automate the predictable. Protect the human judgment.

Access to capital can change what's possible for a business, but many entrepreneurs don't know all of the funding options available to them.

On September 22, the National Entrepreneurs Association of Michigan is bringing entrepreneurs and funding experts together for **Funding Reimagined** at Lawrence Technological University.

We'll be exploring different ways entrepreneurs can think about accessing capital, the options available, and the resources that can help turn growth plans into action.

If you're building a business, planning your next stage of growth, or simply want to better understand the funding landscape, this is a conversation worth being part of.

COAS isn’t about doing more.
It’s about organizing what already exists into a clear, intentional flow.

That’s how businesses scale without sacrificing focus or quality.

In my most recent interview with Voyage Michigan, I talked about something I’ve seen repeatedly across industries:

When communication works, businesses grow.
When it doesn’t, even the best ideas stall.

It’s rarely the idea that fails.

It’s the breakdown between vision, ex*****on, and alignment.

In my most recent interview with Voyage Michigan, I talked about something I had to learn the hard way.

Clarity, systems, and long-term thinking aren’t optional.

Early on, I thought effort alone would create momentum. But without structure, effort turns into noise. And without systems, growth even
