Brazil implements natural disaster alert system via SMS

Mobile phone users will receive an SMS alert in the event of imminent natural disasters.

A pilot project will be activated initially in 20 municipalities of Santa Catarina, where about 500,000 inhabitants live.

These cities were chosen due to meteorological events with potential for accidents, among them windstorms, floods, and hail.
