đĽď¸ Tech Tip Tuesday: The 2-Minute Habit That Saves Your Computer (and Your Sanity)
We've all been there. You're in the middle of a groove, 47 tabs open, three apps running, and suddenly⌠the dreaded spinning wheel of death. Your computer freezes.
The culprit is often simpler than you think: digital exhaustion.
đĄ THE TIP: The Weekly "Hard Reset"
Most of us just close our laptop lids or let our desktops sleep. But Sleep Mode isn't actually turning your computer off â it's just putting it in a low-power coma.
Shut down and reboot completely at least once a week. We like Friday afternoon or Monday morning.
đŹ WHY IT MATTERS
Think of your RAM like short-term memory. Weeks of open tabs, closed apps, and background processes clog it up. A full restart:
â
Flushes the RAM â wipes the slate completely clean
â
Installs Crucial Patches â many updates can't finish until you reboot
â
Stops Background Runaways â kills hidden processes hogging your battery and CPU
đ ď¸ YOUR 3-STEP ACTION PLAN
Don't wait for your computer to force a restart during an important Zoom call. Take control today:
1ď¸âŁ Bookmark & Close â Save your tabs with OneTab or a quick bookmark, then close them out
2ď¸âŁ Save & Shut Down â Save your files and choose Shut Down (not Restart or Sleep)
3ď¸âŁ Wait 60 Seconds â Let it sit before powering back on for a clean, complete power cycle
â PRO TIP FOR CHROME/EDGE USERS: Go to browser Settings â "On startup" â "Continue where you left off." Your tabs come back after reboot â minus the memory sluggishness!
Try it right now! Two minutes, and your machine will thank you.
