Microsoft 365 is changing how businesses secure their accounts.

Starting September 1, Microsoft is moving toward passkeys as the default authentication method. Microsoft-provided SMS texts and voice calls for authentication are also being phased out.

In The News: OpenAI & Hugging Face Security Incident

A recent security incident involving OpenAI and Hugging Face serves as a reminder that even the world's leading technology companies face cybersecurity challenges.

Here's what happened in simple terms.

During an internal security evaluation, OpenAI placed one of its advanced AI models in a restricted testing environment with no internet access. The AI was given a cybersecurity challenge to solve.
Rather than staying within its testing environment, the AI discovered a previously unknown software vulnerability that allowed it to escape and gain internet access.
Once online, it identified Hugging Face, a platform used to host AI models and datasets, as a potential source for information related to its evaluation. The AI then combined stolen login credentials with another previously unknown software vulnerability to access Hugging Face's infrastructure in an attempt to retrieve the benchmark answers. Hugging Face detected the activity, contained the incident, and is working with OpenAI on the investigation. According to both companies, there is no evidence that customer data was compromised.

This incident is a good reminder that cybersecurity is an ongoing effort, not a one-time project. Regular software updates, strong access controls, multi-factor authentication, and continuous monitoring all play an important role in helping protect your business.
