How Is 5G Working For You? Let Us Know
Each cellular company brags about its 5G service; however, if you ask around, some will say it's not worth the cost for the results it delivers. When bragging about fantastic results, it's clear they are not considering the location of their customers.
Let's take a closer look at the Central Pennsylvania area:
Looking at the 5G coverage map provided by www.nperf.com, we have many areas not covered. Now we have 4G/LTE, which still delivers coverage, which can cause you to get those slower speeds when using data.
The big issue is the cellular provider's word.
Promoting promises such as 5G networks will deliver up to 100x faster speeds, be more reliable, have lower latency and better response times, and provide higher capacity for users and greater flexibility.
The carriers are also pushing 5G C-band coverage to help boost their range more, which is showing some improvement. For example, according to a study OpenSignal produced, from March 2022, AT&T users’ 5G Download Speed has increased by 34.6%, which has grown a rising share of 5G readings that use C-band has risen from 4.6% to over 30% in the same time frame. On Verizon, we see a similar upward trend — our users’ average 5G Download Speed has increased by 15.8%, with the share of 5G readings growing from 16.2% to nearly 50%, but AT&T is narrowing the gap.”
An important note, T-Mobile completed a merger with Sprint mobile in 2021, which increased their network drastically. However, the overall service they deliver is still behind the big two.
So the carriers are pushing for better results; is it worth the monthly cost for consumers?
