What happens when educators, industry leaders, technology experts, and policy professionals come together to talk about AI? Lots of thoughtful conversation and even more great questions.

CCAT recently participated in Kaltura Connect, where discussions explored how AI, video, and digital learning experiences are shaping education, workforce development, and the skills needed for the future.

We were proud to be represented by CCAT Chief Technology Officer Dr. Amy Thompson, who participated as a panelist, subject matter expert, and AI thought leader, and CCAT Senior Technical Trainer and Curriculum & Training Manager James Brino, who joined a panel in his role as a professor and educator. Their sessions highlighted the growing connections between AI, learning, and workforce readiness.

One takeaway stood out throughout the day: as AI becomes more integrated into education and the workplace, skills like critical thinking, communication, and responsible technology use are more important than ever.

CCAT Team Member and event attendee Raquel Bolling captured the spirit of the event when she shared, "it became clear that we are part of a much bigger regional conversation around AI, workforce development, and digital transformation."

๐Ÿ” What does advanced manufacturing really look like?

For interns in the Connecticut Manufacturing Internship Program, a recent tour of SPIROL and Defibtech provided the answer.

From precision-engineered fastening and assembly solutions at SPIROL to the lifesaving AEDs and emergency response technologies manufactured by Defibtech, students experienced firsthand how innovation, engineering, and problem-solving come together to create products that make an impact around the world.

One of the highlights of the day was a hands-on CPR and AED training session. Interns not only learned valuable emergency response skills, but also gained a deeper understanding of how the products manufactured at Defibtech can help save lives when every second counts.
Experiences like these help students connect classroom learning to real-world careers, meet industry professionals, and discover the many opportunities available across Connecticut's manufacturing sector.

Step into the Digital Thread Lab and follow the same journey our students take, from the 3D model to simulation, CNC programming and a finished part on the shop floor.

In this behind-the-scenes look, James Brino, CCATโ€™s Senior Trainer and Curriculum and Training Manager, explains how hands-on training helps professionals build practical digital manufacturing skills and understand the impact of Model-Based Definition.

Students work with the model in Siemens Digital Industries Software NX, explore machining simulation using Third Wave Systems technology, and see how that digital information connects to a Haas Automation CNC machine. Along the way, they experience how data moves from design through manufacturing and how a connected workflow can improve communication, reduce errors and increase efficiency.

Participants can begin with Digital Thread and MBD Awareness Training, earn a Credly digital badge, and continue into technical pathways aligned with their roles and professional development goals.

To help Connecticut manufacturers take the next step, CCAT's Additive Voucher Program (AVP) offers matching grant funding of up to $20,000 for qualifying additive manufacturing investments.

Eligible projects may include:

โœ… Third-party integration and implementation services

We were proud to host members of the FORGE community at CCAT for an inside look at technologies, expertise and partnerships helping companies evaluate, implement and integrate technology into their workflows.

FORGE helps physical-product startups across our region move from prototype to production by connecting them with funding, manufacturing expertise and qualified suppliers.

The visit became even more meaningful with the presentation of a $45,000 Product Development Grant to Blue Elm Scientific. The funding will help the company advance its product and deepen its connections within our manufacturing ecosystem.

๐Ÿ‘ Congratulations to the team receiving this grant, and thank you to FORGE for bringing together the startups, manufacturers, technology resources and partners that help promising ideas become products made in Connecticut.
