The recent incident in Houston, where radiation-emitting canisters from a chemical plant ended up in a scrap yard, underscores the ongoing threat posed by the mismanagement of radioactive waste. Radioactive contamination of scrap materials occurs more frequently than one might realize, as it’s estimated that one radioactive source gets lost or misplaced every day in the US and 1-2 per month elsewhere around the world. Radioactive contamination poses immediate risks to workers and those tasked with disposal. And should the material escape detection, the risk becomes wider and the costs much higher.

The potential for a determined adversary to exploit such materials for malicious purposes, like constructing a dirty bomb, remains a significant concern. A recent House Homeland Security Committee hearing uncovered critical challenges facing federal security agencies, particularly within the realm of border security.

The resources allocated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are insufficient. Their Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) office has 56,000 detectors deployed nationwide to prevent the use of radioactive “dirty bombs” in American territory. DHS equips officers with backpack-sized devices capable of detecting materials from a mile away, and larger, truck-sized units, that are deployed for major events like the Super Bowl and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. That is not enough detection to cover the almost 4 million square miles of territory and 5,525 miles of international borders.

The US produces more than 50 million tons of metal waste each year in thousands of scrap yards and landfills. The current monitoring approach is not sufficient and more extensive detection must be implemented.

At Image Insight, we are dedicated to protecting people and places through innovative radiation detection software. Our software solution, GammaPix™, empowers individuals and public safety entities to monitor for and detect radiation without needing to install new equipment. GammaPix software products use regular video security cameras and smartphones to provide a cost-effective and widespread ability to detect and track radiological threats. Proactive awareness and preparation contributes to the creation of safer cities for all.

Material federal officials fear could be used in a 'dirty bomb' was found in Texas. The office tasked with preventing them is on the chopping block.

At Image Insight we stand together against terrorism and hope for peace and unity.

Image Insight joins the world to advocate for peace and the safety of individuals and communities worldwide. In light of the recent heinous terrorist attack in Israel, our hearts are heavy with grief as we condemn hatred and violence.

Our condemnation of evil actions does not discriminate against any religion, race, or nationality. We reject terrorism in all its forms, whether it targets Jews, Muslims, Christians, or any other group. Terrorism has no place in our world!

We find comfort in the solidarity demonstrated by more than 40 nations who have condemned these senseless acts. The magnitude of this tragedy, with more than 1300 Israeli civilians murdered, including nearly 30 American citizens, and almost 2000 Palestinians killed in the resulting fighting defies comprehension.

Families torn apart, innocent lives lost, including babies and young people celebrating peace at a musical festival - these horrific events are among the worst atrocities ever committed by extremist groups. We remember the September 11th terrorist attack and the profound pain endured by the survivors.

In this moment of darkness, our stance remains unwavering: we stand for peace and the rule of law. We affirm that there is no justification for terrorism. We condemn Hamas and their blatant disregard for human life, and assert that their use of Palestinian civilians as shields is abhorrent.

We extend our support to the families affected, understanding the deep anguish caused by such a tragic loss and offer our support in this time of need. We call for unity regardless of our faiths or backgrounds. We join the outpouring of support from people of all faiths and backgrounds - Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, and Jews - around the world. We hope the rule of law prevails.

Hate has no place in our world!

Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan‘s latest blockbuster, has brought the world’s attention to the genesis of nuclear energy and all the related developments that followed. The promise of endless sources of energy and the detonation of more than two thousand nuclear devices including the bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki have polarized opinions since 1945.

From policy making venues like the UN and Congress to the halls of colleges and universities, the conversation regarding the current state of nuclear energy and nuclear threats has restarted.
We should all be part of that conversation.

At Image Insight we believe in a keeping people and places safe and secure in a sustainable environment. That is why we have developed GammaPix, a one of a kind technology for radiation detection and monitoring using regular video cameras and cellphones. A new nuclear reactor has started operations in Georgia, representing the first of its kind in the US in more than 7 years. This reactor will contribute to the energy supply for utilities in Georgia, Florida, and Alabama. Collectively, these units will generate approximately 2 gigawatts, a capacity sufficient to meet the energy demands of more than a million homes and businesses.

Nuclear energy currently supports about 18% of the US power generation needs. As various states explore cleaner energy alternatives, nuclear power is being considered as a green energy substitute to fossil fuels.

At Image Insight, we are dedicated to providing awareness and safety. Our one-of-a-kind radiation detection software and mobile App empower individuals and public safety entities with enhanced detection and monitoring capabilities. GammaPix is a cost-effective detection methods that allows for timely identification of radiological incidents, fostering transparency and cooperation among communities.

We believe that awareness and preparation contribute to a safer environment. ⚛️

instability and risk continue to increase due to the war in Ukraine and Russia. Hundreds of millions of Europeans are at risk of radiation exposure if nuclear power plants are attacked or nuclear weapons are employed. Image Insight Inc. remains alert and ready to respond as needed.

Image Insight provides radiation detection support by monitoring the radiation levels on the ground. Our GammaPix software and App will be instrumental in preserving life and preventing casualties from radiation exposure. The GammaPix App provides individuals and communities with real-time radiation level readings, providing data to determine the advisability of sheltering in place or evacuating.

Please feel free to share this information with your friends and contacts in the areas at risk.

Unable to win and suddenly vulnerable at home, Russian President Vladimir Putin may decide to destroy Ukraine altogether — by fire, flood or irradiation.

“The United States is wiring Ukraine with sensors that can detect bursts of radiation from a nuclear weapon or a dirty bomb and can confirm the identity of the attacker.
In part, the goal is to make sure that if Russia detonates a radioactive weapon on Ukrainian soil, its atomic signature and Moscow’s culpability could be verified.” -- https://lnkd.in/eXkrQUmc

It is a positive step to ensure nuclear forensic capability is in place to ensure attribution should a nuclear or radiological attack occur. Doing so enhances deterrence. However, to preserve life more immediate tactically-relevant radiological detection must exist. Studies throughout the Cold War determined approximately 90% of expected casualties from acute radiation exposure could be avoided if communities are properly informed about whether to shelter in place or to evacuate. People must be protected and there are effective technology options.
