We frequently get calls from customers that have been called from "Microsoft" to inform them they have a infection in their computer. Microsoft does not do this. Nor does any anti virus company or any legitimate computer company. Do not let them connect to your computer to take care of this for you. Once you allow them access they can do anything to your system as if they were sitting right there. They can run programs that will show all sorts of "problems" when there is nothing wrong with your computer. If you are having a problem with your computer please call us or any other local company to help you. These kinds of companies seldom if ever fix any problems and create far more than they fix. This week we have experienced this on a different level. One such company has spoofed our phone number. So it appears that the Computer Shop with our number called them. This is what is showing on their caller ID. So we are over loaded with calls from all over the country. I have talked to many callers, before being forced to change our outgoing message and letting the 200+ calls a day go to voice mail. I feel for so many of these people.
Many know it is a scam and wanted to let me know my number was being used for this purpose. Some have fallen for the scam and are trying to contact the scammers. They don't want to hear it is a scam. Most just are sick of all the calls like most of us.
So tell your friends Microsoft does not call you if you are infected. Calling the number back for any of these phone scams will not connect you back to them. They spoof the numbers.
